Everyone has there opinions but i think the hippo was puting the impala out of its misery. It was a mercy killing so the impala didnt fell any more pain. But thats just what i think.
Or maybe the impala had a heart attack from fear. I would b shitting myself to if a hippo put its mouth around my head. O_O

is it possible the hippo accidentally broke the impalas neck as the impala was clearly moving around before it attempted "cpr"

nope, hippo may appear cumbersome and stupid but they are actually quite intelligent...imagine they are the close relative of dolphin and whale and pig...dolphin is rank the smartest creature and pig is rank 10th...how stupid can they can..
