David Essex gay? Since when? Wouldn't it be better to focus the comments on the song and David's performance? By the way, in the UK it is still very popular and played a lot around Christmas time. I love the gentleness of the lyrics enhanced by the sound of the flute and the singer's voice.

I've been going to his Portsmouth gigs since I was 6 years old with my mum. (I'm 15 now) And when we went round to the back door everyone would push me forward to meet him because I was small! He was so lovely when I spoke to him, he asked whether I enjoyed school and what subjects I liked... His mum was also coming out the back door after watching the show which is when she walked past me :) Lovely little old lady and she has his sparkly eyes.
