i was also 3yrs old when this came out, BUT?? i remember this episode so it had to be on reruns of the muppetshow when i was very very young

You're right Mark Hamill didn't do Zim's voice. BUT Jhonen was considering asking him to take the role, but ultimately decided his voice would be too recognizable for the part. This is also why they changed Zim's voice from Billy West's (in the pilot) to Richard Horvitz.
