If you a beginner, machines are the way to start because the movement is fixed you can get used to weight, and you get the movement right,with the small chance of injury, later however move to the free weights... because the movement is more natural and you also use your support muscles. Machines are still good for some exercises tho, such as lat pulldown, leg extension, leg press, etc.... Good luck man

oh yeah. I am a beginner to weights, and i mean i dont know hardly any free weight excercises. (i.e. i only know 2).
Actually now i do know a few. Anyway the girl at the gym told me to start with machines and then move onto free weights so that is what I am doing.
I am doing all 7 muscles three times a week. I think in the future i will move onto two muscles per day three times a week (so you do all muscles every week)

What do u mean 2...anything not attached to a cable or some sort of machine is a free weight eg. bench press, squats, any dumbbell exercise...

lmao not imao. It is one of the many other shorthand phrases people use on the internet,
stands for "laughing my ass off".
Couple of others are:
lol = laugh out loud
imo = in my opinion
imho = in my humble opinion
rofl = rolling on floor laughing

Are free weights just for upper body or can you use them for legs as well? (i am going to have to get someone at the gym to show me how to use the free weights properly..)
How many6 different excercises/movements are there with the free weights? (i can think of 2 off hand)
Thanks for the reply.

Dude use free weights. When ur starting you need free weights to build the quality base muscle and strength that you need. With machines you don't have to stabilise the weight with your own strength and there is a set groove. Heavy free weights man.
