Mary Lou got lower scores on bars and beam when Szabo didnt make a mistake. Szabo cost herself the AA gold with a fall and another big mistake on team optional bars, and with a big mistake on team compulsory beam. The judges were certainly not favoring Retton.

Thats true,Mary Lou was a better vaulter than Szabo and deserved that gold but what is the excuse for MLR geeting such high scores on beam and bars? All around Szabo was just the better overall gymnast and floor is not just tumbling which Szabo was an amazing tumbler as well!

This was the era of Natalia Yurchenko, who changed the vault forever, she was on another level to Mary-Lou.
