Tom Jobim was famous for being a gentle, intelligent educated and funny character, just as you can see here. About the music, the "samba de uma nota só" (one note samba) is a metalinguistic song. It's trully based on one note, but at some point the lyrics talk about more notes and then the melody changes. Also, the difficult thing about this song is the rhythm, very syncopated (Mulligan suffers to get it) and the harmony, which changes a lot while the melody stands still.

One of the rarest moments on Youtube...all of us Beatniks who grew up with this music, and still attempt to play it, can die HAPPY now, thanks to Saltybroad... blessings! Have to admit, kind of neat to see Gerry having a bit of difficulty as well as us mortals... precious, intimate glimpse to cherish always...

Denise, here in Brazil, "Tom" is a nickname to "Antonio"

Yup. All Brazilians refer to him as Tom Jobim. It sounds different than in English. More like "Tong Joo-beeng" (very roughly). It is short for António and also means "tone".
