I learned to speak English at 6 years old, which is a very standard age for a second language...have you seen where Americans score in the world charts? I very much speak my own language and English as well...it is about dedication, interest and understanding that the world is bigger than the US...World premiere and little slogans such as those, make people believe that we need not to learn another language, which is absolutely wrong...all children do it all over the world, can Americans not?

You know, I am content with Americans not speaking Spanish or any other language..in a global market I'm more of an asset to any company, so to those who are against it...THANK YOU!! I make more money thanks to your narrow-minded English only..the world is shrinking and those who don't join are going to be hiring people who can communicate with the world...so please Americans, you are absolutely right, for Spanish press 2, business is colorblind...SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!

"When the Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German, and all we's can say is merci beaucoup." ?? Of course they can speak English and French and German. Where the heck do you think these Europeans come from, Mr. Obama? They come from England, hence English, they come from France, hence French, They come from Germany, hence German. What are they supposed to speak? Chinese? Obama, you are such a freak.

It's not about ignorance. Take a serious look at our educational system, podjosh. Our non-immigrant, US-born can't even speak proper English when they leave school to go out into the world. Yet, let's push a second language on them when they can't even learn their own language correctly?

Why is there such a defense of ignorance? Lets just continue to be one of the dumbest places on the planet. Do you want your children to be stupid and not be able to communicate with people from other parts of the world? If they would post the entire speech this would not even be debated. He is saying that it is good for everyone to learn a different language. The minority will be the majority in this country in less than 30 years. We have no national language. And it is everyone's country.

al true, but why should we learn spanish because immigrants don't speak english? it's our damn country

I agree with him in the world today and in the world that our children are growing up in it puts them at an advantage to know a second language regardless of what it is. My little boy is three and I wish I knew a second language to teach him but I dont. I also know that for me to excell in the field I have chosen learning a second language is vital for my advancemet. Look at the meaning behind his words rather than what it sounds lke he is saying and you will see that he is speaking the truth.

He believes that those who come here, to the USA, illegally are parasitic as they are feeding off of the US economy, but they are not giving anything back, and he is right, they are parasitic in nature. What languages they speak, or where they come from is not the issue. It's simply the fact that they are coming here illegally.
If they want to do jobs no one else wants to do, fine, but get a work Visa and come here legally. That's all I ask.

Despite divided opinions on oil drilling, immigration, and the war in Iraq, Americans remain strongly supportive of making English the official language of the United States, according to a new Zogby International poll released today. The survey of 1,039 likely voters found that 79.4 percent of Americans favor official English legislation, with 62 percent strongly supporting such a bill. The survey was conducted July 9-13, 2008 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. |
