it's less of a box sclae type thing as it is knowing the notes on the guitar and how they relate to each other, so that you can freely move around the neck and stay in the key (in this case F#m)

You can easily join workshops with him. Just check out the locations he tours to. He comes to Germany almost every year and i took a few already. They are about 200 bucks with a group of just 8 to 10 people for a whole day!
