And once he was president, Nixon didn't hurry to get us out of Vietnam, so, had he been elected in 1960, he may well have gotten us in there at about the same time that Johnson did, and in a similar way (i.e., Gulf of Tonkin).

completely false. both should be held responsible for their escalation of American involvement in Vietnam, but America had maintained a presence there since the Eisenhower Administration.
